This document describes the EmberZNet Serial Protocol (EZSP), which is a communication protocol between a Host Processor and a EmberZNet Network Processor (i.e. EM260 or EM250 running EZSP mode). EZSP messages are sent between the Host and the Network Processor over either a SPI or a UART interface. Revision J.

My SE device joined an ECC-enabled SE network the first time, so why won't it join again after I leave the network?

Categories:
  • Software : Networking
  • EmberZNet PRO

Once customers begin using the full SE security suite, complete with ECC/CBKE support, they often observe that after joining a network and doing key establishment, they encounter problems if they leave that network and then later attempt to join it again.

This is normal SE network behavior that has to do with the negotiation of a unique link key upon joining…

You initially come into the PAN with a preconfigured trust center link key between your joining device (we’ll call it a PCT in this explanation, but it could be any SE device [PCT, IPD, Smart Appliance, Meter, etc]) and the ESP, a

How often should my end device poll its parent?

Categories:
  • Software : Networking
  • EmberZNet PRO

How often you poll will depend on your application’s requirements as well as your desired battery life or power constraints.

There are certainly worst-case values for how long your end devices can go without polling, and these are discussed in the FAQ, How long can my end device go without polling its parent? What happens after that timeout?.

How should I go about changing network parameters on devices already joined to a network?

Categories:
  • Software : Networking
  • EmberZNet PRO

For changing parameters at runtime, applicable methods depend on the kind of parameter being changed:

  • PAN ID: The stack automatically detects PAN ID conflicts and allows the Network Manager device (coordinator node by default) to handle these by changing PAN IDs for the network through established Network-layer processes.
